Top MLB prospect handed 80-game suspension following positive PED test just days after his Blue Jays debut.

Orelvis Martinez, a prospect for the Blue Jays, tested positive for a prohibited performance-enhancing drug and was given an 80-game suspension.
He tested positive for banned substance Clomiphene after making his MLB debut last Friday
The 22-year-old, who made his Major League Baseball debut on Friday, was found to be using Clomiphene, which he alleges was prescribed to him by a Dominican Republic reproductive specialist.

The infielder said that while in the Caribbean during the offseason, he was administered Rejun 50, a medicine containing the performance-enhancing drug, in an effort to begin a family with his fiancée.

I’ve been attempting to start a family with my girlfriend for the last two years. We went to a Dominican Republic fertility clinic in the off-season, and when lab testing was completed, we were given a treatment plan that included the drug Rejun 50, Martínez said in a statement on Sunday.

Regrettably, Rejun 50 contains Clomiphene, a drug that is prohibited. He continued, “We trusted the doctor when he told us this treatment did not include performance-enhancing drugs and we wanted to keep this matter private, even within our family.”

I therefore erred in not telling my team or the MLBPA about this. Having said that, I acknowledged my actions and accepted my punishment.

After signing a contract worth $3.51 million with Toronto in July 2018, Martínez has been making his way through the minor league ranks over the last six years.

During his final campaign with Triple-A Buffalo, he played in 63 games and hit.260 with 16 home runs, 46 RBIs, and an.867 OPS.

Later, general manager Ross Atkins issued a statement endorsing the collaborative drug prevention and treatment initiative of the Major League Baseball.

“The Blue Jays firmly believe in maintaining a level playing field for the game and fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,” he stated on Sunday.

When we heard about Orelvis Martínez’s suspension, we were taken aback as well as unhappy. We’ll do every effort to make sure Orelvis has learned from this error.

Martínez will lose around half of his income, despite his statement that he will “learn from this experience and come back to the field in September.”
