Three outstanding loan agreements that Derby County ought to think about bringing on board

FLW examines the players the Rams may be able to bring to Pride Park this summer on a loan from the Premier League.

On the last day, Paul Warne’s team defeated Carlisle United at Pride Park to earn promotion.

Several players, some of whom were brought on loan at the start or halfway through the season, emerged as key members of the Rams team over the campaign.

Bobby Clark

Bobby Clark joined Liverpool in 2022 after working his way up through the ranks at Birmingham City and Newcastle United. He has made a few appearances during Jürgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.

The 19-year-old has made 24 appearances for the Reds in all competitions; his most memorable was when a youthful Liverpool team defeated Chelsea at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup.

However, except from that February day, the midfielder has not been seen in or around the first squad very often, which has surprised people considering the quality he has showed in his limited appearances this season. Many think a player who they expect to be on Merseyside for long time would be far better off on loan.

Given that Derby and Liverpool have already worked together to facilitate Kaide Gordon’s transfer to the team, it appears plausible that Clark will sign a loan with Derby in the summer. He is a hard-working player who enjoys pressing from the front, but he can also offer the Rams’ front line versatility and poise, which they now lack.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

It’s no secret that Paul Warne has been itching to give his attacking options more zip and flair for this season. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi of Crystal Palace may provide the solution the Rams boss has been searching for.

The 21-year-old, who played for the Addicks in all competitions last season while on loan at Charlton Athletic, showed off his skills by scoring 15 goals and dishing out 10 assists in 50 games. However, he hasn’t left his imprint at Selhurst Park yet.

Tim Iroegbunam

Tim Iroegbunam, a player who has already spent a season in the Championship, would be a great addition to Paul Warne’s squad during the summer transfer window.

The Aston Villa player combines the best traits of both Max Bird, who rejoined Bristol City after completing a transfer to the Robins in the January transfer window, and important loan midfielder Ebou Adams.

The 20-year-old has made 17 appearances this season, five of which have come in the UEFA Europa Conference League under Unai Emery. However, it appears unlikely that the young player will play in the first team next season as the Spaniard may be looking to bolster his squad in preparation for another European campaign.

Iroegbunam made 32 league appearances in his successful breakthrough season at Carrow Road with Queens Park Rangers last season. However, the platform that a club of Derby’s size could provide, especially with the kind of players they need, could make the Villa player a valuable addition to Warne’s midfield options for the 2024–2025 campaign.

Many believed that after his breakthrough season at The Valley, he would play regularly in the Premier League, but he has been sidelined by a hamstring injury. But he’s healthy again and back in the Eagles starting lineup.

Rak-Sakyi did make a few games in the Premier League this season under Roy Hodgson, but the young player has been playing for the under-21 team since his departure and Oliver Glasner’s arrival. Given that he has previously demonstrated his abilities, if the circumstances stay the same going into the upcoming season, he could wish to relocate again so he can continue to grow and play regular football.
