Moment Eagles Beat Writer believes the Team Will Be Dumpster Fire in 2024.

Before the 2024 season begins, one writer in the City of Brotherly Love isn’t exactly feeling the love for his hometown team.
Jalen Hurts Philadelphia Eagles QB
The Philadelphia Eagles had a scorching start to the 2023 season, but they ran out of steam and lost in the NFC Wild Card Game this past January. There is now conjecture that this downward trend will persist until 2024. According to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice:

The Eagles were maybe the weakest club in the NFL by the end of the 2023 season. The coaching staff was inept, the defense was appalling, and the offense was terrible. It would be difficult, in my opinion, to locate a worse single-season collapse in NFL history without a quarterback or other key player suffering a serious injury. It will be difficult to recover from that, and there’s a compelling case to be made that the Eagles’ roster arguably became worse during the off-season.

Hurt. Whether true or not—and those are some pretty harsh words—Philadelphia is generally seen as a difficult media market to play in, whether you’re a visiting club or a member of the home team. How therefore can the Eagles stay out of the dumpster inferno that is 2024? Let’s investigate more closely…

Remember, though, that the PhillyVoice article is speculative rather than factual. However, starting with the quarterback is the first step towards preventing the anticipated “dumpster fire”. That’s Jalen Hurts for the Eagles.

Hurts finished 2023 with a 65.4% completion percentage, 3,858 passing yards, 38 total touchdowns against a career-high 15 interceptions, and a second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. All things considered, Hurts had a really outstanding season. His performance did, however, somewhat decline in the second part of the season.

Hurts only completed 128 of 211 ball attempts (60.6%) with eight touchdowns versus six interceptions after Week 10 of the previous season. Despite being one of the NFL’s more explosive quarterbacks, teams are beginning to figure out how to counter his game plan. Apparently, at least. However, Hurts did accomplish a few significant goals last year.

Hurts can’t do it by himself, though. With a solid group on both sides of the ball, including star wide outs DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown as well as recent addition Saquon Barkley, he has a head coach in Nick Sirianni.

Are the Eagles still in shock following a dismal conclusion to the last campaign? Probably in the affirmative. Nonetheless, they remain one of the NFL’s elite teams. They have two new coordinators to lead them in a different path and a wealth of talent that can propel them to new heights in 2024. They can undoubtedly perform better than most people think. The question is if what appears excellent on paper can be carried out in practice.
