JUST IN: Wigan Athletic star, Luke Robinson, eager to capitalize on loan experience, citing significant learning.

Luke Robinson is certain that his time spent in Scotland will ‘absolutely hold me in good favor’ when he rejoins Wigan Athletic to compete for a starting position.

The 22-year-old defender, who missed the entire season due to a knee injury sustained last month, is now officially back with Latics.

Having made 33 games with the Saints, he says he is “gutted” to not have been able to play for the team longer.

He remarked, “I would love nothing more than to help the lads in the games that remain on the pitch. I am devastated to miss the last few games this season.” But that’s football, and I’ll be watching with complete faith that the squad can perform well toward the end of the campaign.

On New Year’s Day, Latics called up Robinson to provide cover. Later in January, he was permitted to go back to St Johnstone to finish his loan.

Robinson believes that his loan has improved his ability to challenge for a starting position in League One next season, which is exactly what Latics manager Shaun Maloney hopes from the former Scotland Under-21 left-back. “I’m sure the experiences will help me when I return to Wigan,” he continued. Since joining the Saints, I have developed both personally and as a player.

“During my stay, I have discovered a lot about myself and have picked up some important lessons. I’m grateful for everything this club has done for me professionally and I hope the future is bright for everyone.

Robinson claims that during the past 12 months, both on and off the field, he has benefited.

“I had a great time,” he declared. “I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed being a part of Perth, even if there have undoubtedly been ups and downs during my time here.

“The club is unique overall, the boys are outstanding, and the supporters are fervent.” I made it a point to leave everything on the field every time I went out. I hope this was conveyed in my performances.

“One of the main reasons I’ve loved being at the club so much is the players. Everyone on the team is eager to support one another in any way they can, and they all play for the same team.
