Fears have been raised because Xavier Coates’ injury, which occurred during Melbourne Storm’s tenacious 16-6 victory over the Canberra Raiders, is a repeat of a prior hamstring problem from round eight.

What should have been a joyous occasion for Coates, who was playing in his 50th game for the Storm, was marred by the injury.

With the final State of Origin match against New South Wales just over two weeks away, the timing is especially concerning.

During the post-match press conference, Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy expressed doubts on Coates’ availability for the pivotal game.

“I don’t believe he would be available for Origin.” I don’t think we’ll know the precise degree of the injury until we actually have a scan, but I don’t think it’s too good,” Bellamy said.

For Coates, the hamstring problem is nothing new; he has experienced multiple akin injuries.

The team’s continuous battle with injuries to important players was highlighted by the Storm’s unpolished victory over the Raiders. Due to the absence of more seasoned players, Bellamy has been forced to rely more on young players like Sua Fa’alogo and Jack.

Bellamy complimented the team’s tenacity and said, “Out of our spine, Hughesy (Jahrome Hughes) was the only one that played tonight.”

“The guys deserve a great deal of recognition for their unwavering perseverance.” We haven’t had many impressive victories this year, as far as I can recall. They simply persevered and completed the task.

As Bellamy considered the team’s standing, he showed a mixture of pride and shock.

“It’s kind of hard to believe we are where we are on the table with some of the games that we’ve played, but like I said, some of them have been ugly, but we’ve just found a way,” the player added. “I am proud of that, and I know the players are proud of that.”
