BREAKING NEWS: Kyren Wilson Knocked out of Championship League Snooker.

Despite being undefeated in his first match as world champion, Kyren Wilson was unable to advance from Group 1 of the Championship League Snooker on Thursday.

The Englishman won his first-ever world title last month at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre, defeating Jak Jones.

Wilson’s first game of the new season ended in a 2-2 draw with amateur top-up Daniel Womersley.

After defeating Baipat Siripaporn 3-0, things were more positive, but in order to advance, he still needed to defeat Scott Donaldson in his last round-robin match.

The latter needed just a draw from his third game after winning three straight against the same opponents.

Wilson’s 79-run surge to take the lead gave hope that a comeback would be imminent.

However, Donaldson went on to contribute 88 and 101 to secure the point he required to advance to the final 32.

Wilson’s run in the Championship League Snooker came to an early end as he finished the day with a break of 111, only good enough for second place in the group behind Donaldson.

In Group 14, where Hossein Vafaei dominated proceedings by winning all three of his games, it was far more convincing.

Throughout the day, the Iranian outperformed Josh Mulholland, Manasawin Phetmalaikul, and Louis Heathcote, giving up just one frame.

With most online bookmakers, Vafaei’s odds of winning the Championship League Snooker outright have dropped to roughly 14/1.

Meanwhile, two more groups from Stage One will compete in the first ranking event of the 2024–25 snooker season on Friday at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.

Si Jiahui of China is in Group 13 with Peter Lines, Zak Surety, and Jimmy Robertson.

Group 18 pits Anthony Hamilton, Ahmed Aly Elsayed, and Hamim Hussain against former world champion Stuart Bingham.
