BREAKING NEWS: FRU Constitution Approved as Fiji Rugby holds its General Meeting.

At the FRU Special General Meeting, which took place this afternoon at the Novotel Convention Centre in Lami, members of the Union unanimously approved the FRU’s constitution.

The Fiji Rugby Union had constitutional consultations earlier this month in Suva, Nadi, and Savusavu. During these sessions, Union officials were able to express their thoughts and comments on the text that was passed today.

The majority of representatives cast ballots in favor of the proposed constitution during the secret ballot referendum.

The outcome demonstrates Fiji Rugby’s will to be re-admitted into the World Rugby Council, as the country was suspended last year amid concerns expressed over its governance structure.

“Everything will be in order again and we will take this to World Rugby to be admitted into the Council,” said Mr. Peter Mazey, Chairman of Fiji Rugby. We have finally accomplished the objectives they set for the trustees.

The fact that every member of our organization voted on the procedure today, in my opinion, made it crucial. All 26 of the union representatives present were able to pass the vote.

According to Mr. Mazey, World Rugby contributed a consultant to the process, and New Zealand Rugby, which is also undergoing a similar assessment, also provided some support. Rugby is very much a professional sport, he continues, so we need to make sure the best people are in charge of both management and the board.

The purpose of today’s Special General Meeting is to discuss the organization’s governance and structure, with a particular focus on the Unions.

The Annual General Meeting of FRU will now be called, with a 45-day notice.
