The Sun on Sunday said that Leeds United sensation Archie Gray is unlikely to sign with German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund because the club was turned off by a £20 million asking price.

On Sunday, June 23, the newspaper stated on page 56 in print form that Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham are still interested in signing the midfield player.

The 18-year-old made 52 appearances for the Whites across all competitions in the 2023–24 season, tallying one goal and dishing out two assists.

Even in the current market, Gray’s 18-year-old return of just one goal and two assists in 52 games for Leeds United last season makes £20 million seem excessive.

Even though prominent teams like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham are showing interest in Gray because of his apparent talent, his current stats don’t support such a high asking price.

Although Gray’s potential may be more valuable to Leeds United than his current output, the fact that Borussia Dortmund and other teams are turned off by the fee points to caution.

For a player who hasn’t yet proven himself at the greatest level, £20 million seems excessive unless Gray improves his goal-scoring and passing abilities. Gray’s potential must be weighed against the value and immediate impact that clubs could obtain elsewhere in the transfer market when determining this price.
