ANDY MURRAY TO UNDERGO A ‘PROCEDURE’ ON BACK INJURY PRIOR TO WIMBLEDON FOLLOWING QUEEN’S WITHDRAWAL.

Andy Murray’s withdrawal from Queen’s will result in “a procedure” being performed on his back. A right leg problem that he claimed “was not working properly” caused the British fighter to give Jordan Thompson a walkover in the second round. Murray has joined the Wimbledon singles and doubles events, the latter of which he will play in conjunction with his brother Jamie.

According to some sources, Andy Murray would undergo “a procedure” on his back after retiring in the second round at Queen’s Club.
The three-time Grand Slam champion later stated that the injury that forced the Briton to withdraw from his match against Jordan Thompson on Wednesday was a lower back issue.

Murray explained that the problem had been troubling him while he was on the clay-court swing and that it had gotten worse when he got to Queen’s.

The Scot defeated Alexei Popyrin in his first-round match in west London, but he retired against Thompson after just five games, trailing 4-1 in the opening set.

With only ten days till Wimbledon begins, Murray’s chances of competing in SW19 now seem to be in jeopardy.
Murray had already hinted that the Olympics in Paris and Wimbledon this year would probably be his final competitions.

“During my pre-match warm-up I was pretty uncomfortable, and then I walked up the stairs, just before going on the court, I didn’t have the normal strength in my right leg,” Murray stated. It was an unusual emotion.

“After that, my right leg’s coordination was terrible when I struck the first two balls during the warm-up. My coordination was lacking. Subsequently, my right leg was not functioning correctly.

“Looking back, I wish I hadn’t gone on there because everyone felt really uncomfortable.

“There is nothing I could do, and then there is part of you that wants to go out there and see if it gets better, you know, and maybe feel better with a bit of treatment or something, but that wasn’t the case.”

In regards to his injury keeping him out of Wimbledon, where he is entered in both the singles and doubles competitions and will be competing with his brother Jamie in the latter, Murray said he “wouldn’t know.”
Jamie discussed his brother’s predicament with the BBC on Friday.
“He [Andy] saw a specialist last night, and he’s essentially attempting to determine his course of action,” Jamie remarked.

He needs to make a few decisions, so I don’t believe it’s appropriate for me to get too personal about it.

“Obviously, he is quite disappointed that this may be his final Olympic, Wimbledon, and Queen’s match, and there’s a chance that it won’t be able to happen.

“I believe he needs to decide on a few things and then assess his options.”
