While the Bhoys are aggressively searching for first-team reinforcements this summer, spotting future stars at the younger level is an equally vital endeavor to improve sustainability over the long run.

The goal for Celtic must be to develop players so that they can eventually provide them with a road into the senior squad. Brendan Rodgers has stated that he intends to internally promote Lennoxtown graduates during his second stint.

There is now information available about a remarkable talent that the club has given an opportunity to impress during a trial.

Belfast Live reports that Cliftonville’s Shay Reid, who scored 36 goals between his Under-16 and Under-18 seasons, will be put on trial with Celtic Under-18.

The 15-year-old will practice with the team before taking part in a friendly game. At the end of this month, he will also play for County Down in the SuperCupNI.

Along with a number of other clubs, Hibernian is pursuing him. During his time in Belfast, he made one appearance for Northern Ireland’s junior team.

Paul Smyth, the head of Cliftonville’s academy, provided some insight into his circumstances back in April when he said: “We have three other boys going over to Hibs – Ollie McCart, Oisin Gamble, and Owen Mahoney.” In the upcoming weeks, Shay Reid will be traveling to Celtic, and Eamonn Tohill will be traveling to Derby. Six or seven players are already making their way over the sea.

It speaks volumes about the boys’ performance for us and their passion toward the game of football. These lads all possess the hunger, drive, and will to strive that are necessary for success—talent alone won’t get you very far.

Reid should be able to capitalize on his opportunity to shine at Celtic and secure a longer stay to further his development under academy staff, because Adam Asghar will soon take over as Under-18 manager.
