The 28-year-old defender joins Jo Potter’s team as their third summer acquisition, following Scotland international Leah Eddie and Liv McLoughlin.

Rafferty comes to Glasgow with a wealth of international experience, having played for Northern Ireland in over 20 games and occasionally donning the captain’s armband.

Ten years ago, the defender started her senior career at Chelsea. She then went on loan to Oxford United for a portion of 2016.

After spending four years at Brighton & Hove Albion, Rafferty spent the 2020–21 season on loan at Bristol City, a Women’s Super League team.

The next season, she would go back to Southampton, the place where her youth career started, and as a regular member of the team, she would assist the Saints advance into the English football league’s second division.

“I’m really excited,” Rafferty said after joining the Gers. It is a large club, and I would align my actions with the ideals it upholds.

“I’ve been watching Rangers for a while; I see a lot of value in their style of play and winning mentality.

“Being a part of a winning mentality and winning things is one of my goals, and I know that the Rangers have that.

“I’m eager to get started, talking to people inside and outside the club.”

Jo Potter, the head coach for women, went on, saying, “Laura comes with a ton of experience, so I am really enthusiastic about signing her.

“I believe you can see from her resume the kind of player she is and what she can bring to the team, and I was impressed with her and her self-handling from our very first conversation.”

“She will definitely add value to the team, and I can’t wait for her to join and get going,”

Managing Director of Women’s Football Donald Gillies continued, saying, “I am overjoyed that we can add a player of Laura’s caliber to the team.

She is a fully fledged international for her country, having captained the team in addition to her extremely high level of performance in the game.

“Laura will add to the team her expertise, her leadership abilities, and another amazing dynamic. In the upcoming seasons, we hope she can contribute to the team’s success.
