BREAKING NEWS: Andy Staples set to Buy Stock in UCF.
On3’s Andy Staples recently spoke with Pete Mundo of Heartland College Sports on YouTube about which of the four 2023 Big 12 expansion teams he would invest in going forward.
Staples responded promptly in support of the UCF Knights, and following an outstanding recruitment campaign via the transfer portal and high school rankings, Staples’ stake in UCF might soar very soon.
“UCF, UCF, UCF,” Staples exclaimed. “When I was down there a few months back, I spoke with Gus Malzahn about the previous season, and he’s still upset that they ended below.500. In his whole career as a head coach, he has never finished below.500.
Even if UCF’s recruiting binge this offseason could help the team contend for a title in 2024, the Knights may not have had the season Gus Malzahn had in mind when the team joined the Big 12. The Knights have the 34th-best recruiting class in the country and the 22nd-best transfer class, both of which are placed in the top three among Big 12 Conference teams.
Staples went on, “They did a great job of retention.” “They retained RJ Harvey, a 1400-yard rusher, despite the fact that I believe many other colleges would have shown interest in him. KJ Jefferson, who had several successful years at Arkansas, is brought in. That was the year that Bo Nix came out, but Gus wanted KJ Jefferson, and KJ Jefferson wanted to play for Gus at Auburn. These two can now collaborate at last. They have the potential to be very successful in the Big 12 every year.
