REPORTING: Lathan Sommerville, a Rutgers commit, showcases a sneak peek of what is in store in a recent video.

The incoming freshman will have a significant effect on Rutgers’ next campaign.

The Rutgers entering class is the strongest in the history of the program.

The Class of 2024, which 247Sports Composite has placed fourth in the country, will be welcomed by the Scarlet Knights. Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, two five-star players, are at the head of the bunch, but Steve Pikiell added another versatile big man who should have an influence.

Lathan Sommerville is a formidable player who has the ability to score while facing away from the hoop. His size and mobility are wonderful assets that Rutgers can immediately benefit from.

After making his pledge, Sommerville remarked, “I can stretch the floor for sure, but I’m more of a mid-post, low-post scorer.” “I’m working really hard to make more three-pointers. I have some handles, too, despite the fact that most people only see me as a large man with his back to the basket. I have a bag, albeit I don’t always use it.

Sommerville is spectacular based on a recent video uploaded on social media.

Sommerville’s game included impressive range and agility. It’s obvious that he wants to develop into the kind of adaptable player that Pikiell enjoys having in the lineup.

Sommerville remarked, “I know Coach Pikiell loves big players who are versatile.” The thought of being able to show him my abilities truly thrills me.

Steve Pikiell, the head coach at Rutgers, said the following regarding Sommerville:

“Amazing basketball players make up Lathan Somerville’s family. I was in love with him the first time I spoke to him on the phone. He has a wonderful personality, and each time I see him, he gets better. He is present both inside and outside. He is a versatile player who can fill a variety of roles. Like any player in the country at his position, he can pass and rebound. I have no doubt that he will have a fantastic career, and we are incredibly excited about his future growth. We can’t wait to welcome Lathan into the RU family.

In 2024, Rutgers will be a very different team. P.J. Hayes, a transfer from San Diego, declared last week that he will play for Rutgers the following season. Hayes joins Zach Martini, a transfer from Princeton, Tyson Acuff from Eastern Michigan, and Jordan Derkack from Merrimack as the fourth addition to the Scarlet Knights’ transfer portal.

Sommerville will play a major role in the Scarlet Knights’ plans for the future.

Sommerville remarked, “It meant a lot and I was really excited that the process was over and I knew where I wanted to go.” What made it even better was having my family support me in my goals.
