Following this year’s trade deadline, Grant Williams, who had spent half of the previous season with the Dallas Mavericks, was now a member of the Charlotte Hornets. It turns out that one of the Milwaukee Bucks’ most beloved players was nearly dealt for the former rookie of the Boston Celtics.
Williams gained attention in college after dominating Tennessee’s football team for two years in a row. Then, the big forward led his team to a second-seeded finish in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and won back-to-back SEC Player of the Year awards.
Williams attracted the interest of the Boston Celtics when they selected him with the 22nd pick of the 2019 Draft, thanks to his time in Tennessee. From then on, the forward made a name for himself as a wing player who could score when open and defend a variety of positions. In his four years as a member of the Celtics, he averaged 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 6.2 points.
In the previous offseason, he was later dealt to the Dallas Mavericks. The top staff dealt Williams to the Charlotte Hornets before the deadline in exchange for forward P.J. Washington and multiple choices after realizing he didn’t really mesh with Luka Doncic and company.
