REPORTING: The forward indicates a plan to persist even after leaving Wigan Athletic.

Despite being without a club after leaving Wigan Athletic, Josh Magennis has expressed his desire to play for Northern Ireland at the international level.

After his contract at Wigan wasn’t renewed, the 33-year-old became a free agent and is currently considering his options.

Manager Michael O’Neill, an ex-Latics midfielder, offered him the chance to miss Northern Ireland’s June friendly against Spain and Andorra on that account.

Though he runs the risk of being hurt before securing his future, Magennis, who has scored 11 goals in 78 appearances for his country, has put his hand up to play together with Corry Evans, who recently departed Sunderland.
O’Neill stated, “The players have that choice.” Josh and I spoke, and it’s clear that they are in similar circumstances to Corry.

“I told them, ‘Look, I completely understand if it’s a problem for you,’ but both players were eager to participate and play. That kind of situation is never simple.Although it’s an unpredictable period, they both have the experience and age to handle it, which presents them with a little window of opportunity.

“People are aware of their continued involvement on a global scale.

During the summer, I hope that if people contact me and inquire about them, I can assure them that they are in great condition, have much to bring to the table, and find a suitable opportunity to keep playing alongside us, despite leaving Wigan Athletic.
